RETRO VINTAGE CANON FX CAMERA WITH 50MM LENS, CANON LEATHER HARD CASE AND MANUAL

Canon FX camera body with FL 50 mm 1.8 lens (factory kit). Introduced in 1964, and released before the Tokyo 1964 Summer Olympic Games; manufactured in Japan until 1971.
Featured the new FL lens mount system, this model was famous for it’s high quality build, and was a true testament to the renowned Japanese precision that high-end Cannon cameras are known for nowadays.

This particular camera (serial number 325382) is in perfect condition, both external and internal, making it a highly collectable, and still working, piece of classic equipment.

Results of live testing with a colour film: film transport works perfectly and smoothly. Frame separation, despite all the years since it’s manufacture, is still precise; as is the film winding system, ensuring there are no scratches over the film surface. Camera body and dials are in very good condition with no fungus or dirt. The camera has an exposure meter with ISO preselection divided into two ranges for higher range of useful EV. It's based on CDS sensor with a mercury, and this has not been tested as it's less likely to work properly after 45 - 50 years due to photo cell degradation, however that is to be expected in a camera of this vintage. This could be repaired by replacing the photocell.

The lens mount is clean and works with like-new precision. There are no issues with operating non-Canon lenses (that are still available in large variety).

Exposure times range from 1/1000s to 1s with separate X (sync) time.

Shutter accuracy checks reveal that the 1 sec time lasts a bit longer than 1 s, which suggests that all ranges from 1/15s to 1 s may be actually slightly longer than designed. Again, that is to be expected in a camera of this vintage.

There is some dust over the matte surface in the viewfinder, but manual sharpening is still quick and precise. The view is evenly lighted and really big, especially comparing to modern DSLRs. The viewfinder optics are all made using glass lens without plastic components.

The self-timer works, but mirror lock-up goes only halfway for some reason; this doesn't affect the usability of the self-timer.

Flash sync is possible via a PC cable only; there's no electric connection through a hot shoe

The finely designed camera back lock located on the underside of the body that is properly working.

The camera has no traces of ever being opened or serviced.

Composing the frame is pure pleasure. Depth-of-field can be controlled from the lens only. There are no distracting symbols shown in the viewfinder, and the shutter release button can be blocked to prevent accidental shutting. Composition is done with fully opened lens aperture, which closes to the desired setting only when exposing film.

Canon 50 mm 1.8 lens. This is the standard lens sold with FX-series camera sets.

Visual inspection reveals the lens is very clean outside and inside. The anti-reflex coating in good condition. One of the aperture segments is not in line with the others, which makes the round shape slightly oval – this doesn't affect the quality of pictures in any visible way; distant and out of focus areas still look pleasant. The lens is suitable for all kind of colour film

Comes with original CANON real leather hard case made in Japan. Pen mark on the inside: DR. EARNSHAW and some crossed words. Overall in good structural condition, cosmetically good, could use a bit of TLC. Belt in perfect condition.

The manual is complete without any missing pages, however it is in poor condition. There are some handmade notes on page 4.
